YMCA Town Lake (Austin) - Part-Time Swim Coach

  • Type: Part time (hourly, non-exempt)
  • Hours: up to 20-24 hrs/week
    • Weekday afternoons/evenings, Saturday mornings, meets as needed
  • Reports to: Aquatics Director & Head Coach; employed by Greater Austin YMCA
  • Location: Townlake YMCA (1100 West Cesar Chavez Street, Austin, Texas 78703).

Role Summary

As a vital member of our organization, the Swim Coach will play a crucial role in providing expert instruction and coaching to swimmers of various skill levels, ensuring a safe and enjoyable environment. This position is instrumental in developing swimmers' abilities, promoting sportsmanship, and significantly enhancing their overall swimming experience. Your expertise and commitment will directly contribute to the success and well-being of our community. We are looking for candidates that are knowledgeable of swimming, strokes and how to work with swimmers of different levels, and/or have a certified USA swim coach with experience working swimmers ages 5-15 years old.

Core Responsibilities

  • Design and execute training plans that cater to the needs of swimmers of all levels, from beginners to competitive athletes. 
  • Teach swimming techniques, stroke mechanics, and water safety skills to individuals and groups. 
  • Lead and supervise swim practices, ensuring they are safe, effective, and engaging. 
  • Track and assess the progress of swimmers, providing feedback and adjustments to training programs as needed. 
  • Maintain a safe environment by enforcing pool rules, monitoring swimmers, and responding to emergencies as required. 
  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise swim meets and other related events. 
  • Encourage teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship among swimmers. 
  • Provide regular updates on swimmers' progress and address any concerns or questions. 
  • Ensure all swimming equipment and facilities are properly maintained and in good working condition.  
  • Promote the YMCA's character values, mission, wellness philosophy, and role in the community. 
  • Lead by example the Y’s mission, vision, and values with program participants, members, staff, and guests.  
  • Become an Ambassador of the Y’s work and culture by being the ultimate storyteller of who we are as an organization and brand.  

Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a swim coach or instructor, preferably with competitive swimming experience. 
  • USA Swimming coach credentials preferred; SafeSport, CPR/First Aid required
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Ability to motivate and inspire swimmers of all ages and abilities. 
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills. 

Compensation

Alamo Area Aquatic Association at Southwest - Assistant Coach

  • Type: SWISD employee (hourly, non-exempt)
  • Hours: up to 20 hrs/week

  • Reports to: Aquatics Coordinator/Head Coach; employed by SWISD
  • Location: Southwest ISD Aquatic Center (9290 SW Loop 410, San Antonio, TX, 78242).

Role Summary

Provide high-quality assistance on deck for larger groups (10&U through 14&U and/or developmental HS), ensuring excellent lane management, technique correction, and athlete safety within district policies.

Core Responsibilities

  • On-deck support: execute practice plans provided by lead coaches; manage lanes, intervals, and equipment; deliver continuous technique feedback
  • Safety & supervision: Enforce deck and facility rules; maintain consistent head-counting and transitions; report incidents in line with district policy
  • Meet assistance: shepherd large athlete groups at warm-ups, clerk-of-course, and team areas; record splits and provide concise post-race cues
  • Communication: relay daily notes to the lead coach; courteous parent interactions and district-appropriate referrals for questions.
  • Operations: help set up/break down practice and meet equipment; maintain storage and inventory; assist with attendance
  • Culture: reinforce program values (effort, accountability, and sportsmanship), especially with new swimmers

Qualifications

  • District onboarding requirements (fingerprinting/background, mandatory trainings)
  • USA Swimming coach credentials preferred (or obtained within 30 days); SafeSport, CPR/First Aid required
  • Experience coaching or teaching youth swimmers; confident command of progressions for all four strokes, starts, and turns
  • Calm, organized, and effective with 20-40 swimmers on deck alongside other coaches

Compensation

  • Starting at $16.50/hr, per SWISD pay structure; eligibility for district time-keeping and HR policies.

Circle C Select Swim Team (South Austin) seeks Age-Group Coach
 
Circle C Select Swim Team located at the Circle C Ranch community in South Austin, is searching for a age-group coach to assist with our age group programs. The position is part-time, 6 days a week and approximately 4 hours per day on-deck coaching. The anticipated start date is when filled.
 
Coaching Responsibilities:
  • Attend daily workouts and swim meets as assigned by the Head Coach
  • Work with the Head Coach to develop and implement seasonal, weekly, and daily training plans for the assigned groups
  • Teach and train the swimmers in proper stroke techniques and racing strategies as appropriate for the age and developmental level of the assigned groups
  • Develop and lead the strength and conditioning program, MTHS for 30 minutes and 15 minute sessions.
  • Develop and maintain healthy relationships with the swimmers, their parents and other coaching staff
  • Participate fully in group practices and activities
  • Maintain daily attendance records for the group
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications include:
  • Prior high school and club coaching or competitive swimming experience
  • Current in USA Swimming required certifications: CPR, Safety Training for Swim Coaches, Athlete Protection, Concussion Protocol Training, Background check, Coaches Advantage Training, Foundations of Coaching, MAAPP 2.0 and/or the ability to obtain required certifications.
Location:
We train at the Circle C HOA Swim Center, 5919 La Crosse Ave, Austin, Tx 78739. An outside Olympic size 25 yd x 50 meter pool.
 
Compensation:
$20-$25 per hour, will be based on experience and qualifications.

Assistant Coach – Great Hills Aquatic Rush (Austin, TX)

GENERAL SUMMARY
Assists in coaching individuals and groups in competitive swimming; demonstrates proper use of equipment and techniques; observes swimmers to detect and correct mistakes; attends and supports swim meets; and contributes to the overall success and culture of the RUSH swim program.

SUPERVISION
Reports to the Aquatic Director and Head Swim Coach.

COMPENSATION

  • Hourly Pay: $20–$25/hour, based on experience and certifications
  • Commission Opportunities: Available through private lessons and additional program contributions

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Adhere to the GHCC Employee Handbook and GHCC Rules and Standards of Conduct
2. Coach athletes in proper swim technique and form; provide technical feedback and motivation
3. Assist with meet logistics, including organizing swimmers and ensuring participation
4. Respond to member inquiries and resolve concerns professionally 
5. Help maintain the cleanliness and order of all aquatic facilities
6. Collaborate with RUSH coaches to create and communicate seasonal outlines for Gold and Senior groups
7. Assistant in organizing at least one swim team special event per season (two annually)
8. Work with the Aquatics Director and Head Coach on programming and team development

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Education: High school diploma or in senior year of high school
  • Experience: At least 1 year of swim teaching or coaching
  • Licenses/Certifications:
    • Valid Class C Texas driver’s license
    • Current USA Swimming Coach Certification (or willingness to obtain)
