The Deputy Officials Chair will serve on the Officials Committee and will assist the Officials Chair to manage the officials in South Texas Swimming. The Deputy Officials Chair will serve until the STX House of Delegates meeting in April, 2028, at which time s/he will succeed to Officials Chair for two years, and a new Deputy Officials Chair will be elected.
To be eligible to nominate someone or vote in the election, you must be certified as an Official with South Texas Swimming in at least one non-trainee position: Deck Referee, Starter, Chief Judge, Stroke and Turn Judge, Administrative Official, Open Water Judge, or Open Water Referee.
To be nominated and elected Deputy Officials Chair, the nominee must be a current Official member of STX in good standing, certified as a Referee for a minimum of two years, and have served as an active member of the STX Officials Committee for at least one year in the past five years or be approved by the STX Officials Committee. The duties of the Deputy Officials Chair and the Officials Chair are described in Appendix B of the South Texas Swimming Policies & Procedures Governing Officials.
All nominations and voting, including a run-off election if necessary, will take place electronically via a form sent to all STX Officials in good standing.

If a runoff election is required, the two nominees with the top two overall votes will be distributed to the eligible officials on a runoff ballot with a five-day return deadline. A notice will be posted on the STX website informing the officials of the runoff election.
Additional Election Information:
The election of the STX Deputy Officials Chair will be conducted by two individuals who will be appointed by the STX General Chair and approved by the Board of Directors as Official’s Chair Election Representatives.
After nominations close, the STX Deputy Officials Chair Election Representatives will contact all eligible nominees and confirm via email that they will accept the nomination.
The STX website will be updated with the nominees and information on whom to contact if an eligible official does not receive an election ballot.
After voting closes, the STX Deputy Officials Chair Election Representatives will tally the ballots received and determine if a runoff election is required. If a runoff election is required, the two nominees with the top two overall votes will be distributed to the eligible officials on a runoff ballot. A notice will be posted on the STX website informing the members of the runoff election. After the deadline for returning ballots, the STX Deputy Officials Chair Election Representatives who tallied the first ballot will tally the runoff ballot. The individual with the highest number of ballots will be considered the newly elected STX Deputy Officials Chair and will be announced to the membership.
